Carpooling in the USA
LinqRoad helps you find or offer a carpool anywhere in the United States, from daily commutes in the Bay Area, New York and Seattle to road trips like New York–Boston and LA–San Diego. Search by pickup and drop, contact the driver directly and split gas and tolls. No account required.
Most American cars on the road carry just one person. LinqRoad fills those empty seats by matching drivers and riders going the same way, for the morning commute, a weekend in Lake Tahoe or a ride home for the holidays.
Drivers set a price per seat in US dollars and choose their preferences: AC, music and smoking. Riders search by pickup and drop location and see rides within about 25 km (15 miles) of each end.

Good to know in United States
- Split costs, don't profit: sharing gas and tolls is ordinary carpooling. Charging more than your costs can turn a trip into a commercial ride with different insurance and licensing rules, which vary by state.
- Many highways have HOV (carpool) lanes that need 2 or more people, sometimes 3 or more, and some express lanes also need a toll transponder. Follow the posted signs.
- Agree the price and how you'll pay (cash or a payment app) before you set off. LinqRoad doesn't take payments or commission.
- Prices are shown in US dollars (USD) per seat, in the ride's local time zone.

Carpooling in United States: FAQ
Is it legal to share gas money for a carpool in the US?
In most of the US, splitting gas and toll costs for a shared trip is treated as ordinary carpooling. Charging more than your costs can make it a commercial ride with different insurance and licensing requirements, which vary by state, so check with your insurer if you're unsure.
Can a LinqRoad carpool use HOV lanes?
Usually, if you meet the occupancy rule. Many HOV lanes need 2 or more people and some need 3 or more. Hours vary, and some express lanes also need a toll transponder, so follow the posted signs.
How do riders pay the driver?
Directly, in cash or with any payment app you both agree on, at a price set before the trip. LinqRoad doesn't take payments or commission.
Can I find long-distance rides like New York to Boston?
Yes. Search with your pickup and drop, for example New York to Boston, Los Angeles to San Diego or Seattle to Portland, to see rides heading that way.
