Carpool safety checklist for drivers and riders
Practical safety steps before, during and after a shared ride, plus emergency numbers for India, the USA, the UK and Canada.
By the LinqRoad team · Updated
Before the trip
- Call the driver or rider before the day. A short conversation tells you a lot.
- Agree the exact pickup point, time, price and payment method.
- Send the listing details and your plans to a friend or family member.
- Choose a busy, public pickup point rather than a home address.
At pickup
- Check that the vehicle type, model and number plate match what you were told.
- Riders: sit where you feel comfortable, and wear your seat belt or helmet.
- Drivers: confirm the rider's name and destination before setting off.
- If something feels wrong, don't get in. It's always fine to cancel.
During the ride
- Share your live location with someone you trust.
- Keep your phone charged and your belongings with you.
- Drivers: follow speed limits, take breaks on long trips, and never drive tired.
In an emergency
Call local emergency services first: 112 in India, 911 in the USA and Canada, and 999 or 112 in the UK. LinqRoad doesn't run the trips themselves, so emergency services are always the right first call.
Frequently asked questions
Should I share my home address with a carpool driver?
It's usually better not to. Pick a nearby public place such as a station, a shopping centre entrance or a main road.
What should I check before getting into the car?
That the vehicle type, model and number plate match what the driver told you, and that the driver confirms your name and destination.
